How to Reverse Wellbutrin/Bupropion Induced Sexual Dysfunction/Side-Effects (Memory Issues as Well)

Many people have written about how to counter SSRI side-effects (including myself), however, to Date - no one has written about Wellbutrin related sides. Mainly because the 'side-effects' are both under reported and *unlikely*, that doesn't mean they don't happen.

Wellbutrin is classified as a Dopamine-Norepinephrine-Reuptake inhibitor, however, it has several other effects ; including ....

  • Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor Antagonism (1) (*)
  • Inhibition of Glutamate Release (2)
  • Inhibition of Nitric Oxide in Brain (3).

(*) Wellbutrin is often classified as 'anticholinergic' because of the above effect; however, this is not accurate. It doesn't affect ALL Acetylcholine Receptors; just the nicotinic ones (associated with smoking).

Because of the above intermingling with other neurotransmitter systems - a distortion is often seen in human male sexual functions, the most common being.

  • Increased libido but decreased arousal / erection capacity.
  • An increase in sexual aggression but decrease in potency and classical libido.

This is mostly because Wellbutrin inappropriately shifts the balance between NORAdrenaline and Dopamine systems. The noradrenaline/norepinephrine becomes excessive causing the associated psychological side-effects.

Additionally, glutamate and nitric oxide are positively associated with the physiological/physical aspects of sexual arousal - that means they are both needed for erections (4) (5).

It is also plainly seen in <this study> that some of those effects of Bupropion are reversed by Sildenafil (Viagra) as well as L-Arginine. This reinforces that the nitric oxide system must be augmented to reverse sexual side-effects from Wellbutrin.

Finally, the most recent research in Erectile Dysfunction proves that Arginine-Glutamate and Yohimbine is an adequate combination treatment for both healthy individuals (6) and those experiencing anti-depressant related side-effects (7).

In my research though, both with those in the patient observation studies of UKI and based on the Public Internet Reports related to our studies - as well as in general forum reports....

I have found the most comprehensive approach to treating Wellbutrin-Induced Erectile Difficulties to be the trio-cocktail of .

(**I've also found the above cocktail to alleviate Memory Issues resultant from Wellbutrin-Use**)
