In my quest to find serotonin ligands, particularly, antagonists/blockers of the 5-HT(4) receptor - I have come across a few natural antagonists, with varying potency - and one chemical not available yet but still in clinical testing.
I will be updating this article as I find more.
The first natural 5-HT(4) antagonist would appear to be chamomile extract.
Though the study cited showed it was particularly an ethanol extract, and it was included in a formula, however, by binding assays and other chemical tests - it was revealed the chamomile component was indeed the binder of the 5-HT4 receptor - which probably accounts for at least part, of the anti-diarrhea/Irritable Bowel treatment; STW 5.
Additionally, chamomile has anti-anxiety effects which probably relate to it's serotonin 5-HT(4) receptor blockade.
My favorite CHAMOMILE PRODUCT - is the one below.
